From Vision to Impact: 10 Years and Beyond
The Ekiti State University Medical Students’ Association (EKSUMSA) is the recognized representative body for all students pursuing the MBBS degree at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. Known collectively as EKSUMSITES, our members are united by a shared vision of academic excellence, ethical leadership, and meaningful service to society.
For over a decade, EKSUMSA has stood as a cornerstone of student engagement, advocacy, and development within the College of Medicine. We offer a dynamic platform that fosters collaboration among students, faculty, and healthcare institutions, bridging the gap between medical education and real-world impact.
Our association is proudly affiliated with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA), and the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). These affiliations connect our members to a wider national and global network of future healthcare professionals, opening doors to leadership, learning, and innovation in medicine.
The Ekiti State University Medical Students’ Association (EKSUMSA) was founded on April 15, 2014, with a clear mission: to unite, represent, and empower medical students at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. Guided by the motto “Heart for Humanity,” EKSUMSA was born from the vision of passionate and resilient students who sought to create an association that truly reflects their values of service, leadership, and academic excellence.
Under the pioneering leadership of Dr. Akomolafe Shina Oluwatobi, the association’s first president, and Dr. Saheed Bello, the inaugural Senate President, EKSUMSA quickly established a strong foundation. This administration crafted the association’s constitution, strengthened the legislative Senate, and introduced hallmark initiatives like the Health Week and affiliation with the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA)—initiatives that remain integral to the association’s identity today.
The Seun Akinfolarin-led administration, alongside Senate President Dr. Tolu Ajibola, followed by upholding the integrity of the Senate and defining the roles within the Central Executive Council. This team introduced student incentives and navigated the association through a challenging period that included a brief proscription due to protests, demonstrating resilience and dedication.
With Dr. Tolu Ajibola’s administration, EKSUMSA entered a period of renewed stability and growth. This administration staged the maiden Health Week that has become a lasting tradition. Their leadership was pivotal in uniting members and restoring confidence in the association.
In 2020, under the leadership of Babatimilehin Ifeoluwa, EKSUMSA faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, the administration successfully organized the Provost Cup and delivered an impactful Health Week.
The 2021/2022 session under David Aduragbemi Ajayi saw the launch of the EKSUMSA Mentorship Program, a groundbreaking initiative focused on student capacity development and peer mentorship, aimed at preparing members for future medical careers.
During the 2022/2023 session, led by Adebule Damilola, the association witnessed significant progress in promoting inclusivity with the introduction of the Female Sports Tournament, breaking down gender barriers and stereotypes while continuing to focus on overall student development.
The 2023/2024 administration, under Oluwatoba George, launched the ambitious Project 360 agenda, emphasizing well-rounded student development through sports, academics, and social engagement. Key initiatives like EKSUMSA TV, providing real-time information to students.
Currently, under the leadership of Oluwaseyi Ajayi (2024/2025), EKSUMSA continues to build on this legacy with new initiatives in sports, academics, and capacity building—fostering an environment where medical students can thrive and prepare to make meaningful contributions to healthcare.
